About Roadmap
Your teams' single source of truth for tracking what we're building, why we're building it, and how it's going.
What is Roadmap?
Roadmap is a purpose-built app for Discovery Education teams. It gives everyone — engineers, designers, product owners, and leadership — a shared view of what's in-flight, what's shipped, and what's next.
Instead of spreadsheets, slide decks, and scattered Slack threads, Roadmap puts everything in one place where it stays current and accessible to the whole team.
Why does it exist?
As our teams and project load grew, keeping track of project status, key dates, and cross-team dependencies became harder. We needed a lightweight, always-up-to-date tool that everyone actually uses — not another heavyweight system that goes stale.
Roadmap was built by the team, for the team, with zero overhead. It's an addition to PI Planning processes we already have, intended to allow async updates across teams and the entire org with clarity and transparency.
How does it work?
Projects
Each project tracks its status, completion, dates, links, tags, dependencies, and is organized into categories: Customer Facing, Prototypes, and Team Tools.
Updates
Post updates to any project you contribute to — releases, milestones, announcements, decisions, or just a general post. @mention people and teams.
Kudos
Anyone can give kudos — shout out a teammate, celebrate a win, or recognize great work. No project required.
Teams
See who's on which team, what they work on, and how teams connect across projects. Teams can be tagged in updates too.
Milestones
Track key dates and deliverables per project with visual timelines, and see upcoming milestones across all projects.
Risks
Log risks per project, mark them as resolved when handled, and keep a running history of what we've mitigated.
Roles
See all projects, updates, teams, and milestones. Post Kudos to celebrate teammates.
Everything viewers can do, plus create and edit projects, post any update type, manage teams, add users, and promote users to manager.
Full access. Everything managers can do, plus promote users to admin and manage the entire system.
Project contributors (regardless of role) can also post updates to the specific projects they contribute to.
Stay in the Loop on Slack
All updates posted in Roadmap are automatically shared to the #roadmap Slack channel. Join the channel to get notified about new posts, releases, milestones, and kudos without having to check the app.
