What

When a teacher is viewing an asset in Player, the app surfaces strategy-based activity suggestions relevant to that asset, lets the teacher create a new activity right from the player (generating its instructional copy and content automatically), and assign it to students — without leaving Player. No standalone app, no onboarding/workout/progress UI, and no AI coach chat in this scope (the AI Coach layer feature is still TBD). Everything is powered by five layer features shipped as a reusable @discoveryedu package: Strategies Layer, Create Activity, Generate Activity Copy/Content, Activity Search, and Content/Curriculum Connections.

Why

Rather than building only a new destination app (Strategy Coach), this proves the "strategies as a service" thesis by embedding strategy-based activities where teachers already are — the asset player — so they can go from watching content to running a strategy-based activity with students without hunting for a strategy, leaving the platform, or building an activity from scratch.

Success Looks Like

  • The five layer features ship as a reusable package consumed by Player with no bespoke business logic duplicated on the Player side

  • Teachers viewing an asset see relevant, curriculum-connected strategy activity suggestions

  • Teachers can create an activity from Player, with copy/content auto-generated, in one flow

  • Teachers can assign the created activity to students directly from Player

  • The layer is proven reusable enough that a second surface could consume the same features later with configuration only, not new code

Who's It For

  • Teachers using DE Player (primary end users)

  • Engineering team building the layer features and the Player integration

  • Curriculum lead (validating content/curriculum connections and generated activity copy)

  • Future consumers of the layer — Search, Chat, Products, and a future standalone StrategyCoach app, none of which need to rebuild activity creation, search, or connections once this ships
