DE Home / Platform EFP
The Discovery Education platform is an AI teaching companion — a conversational assistant that helps educators instantly find, preview, and package standards-aligned instructional content, and a bridge off DE's legacy platforms toward an AI-native future.
What
A chat-first web app where teachers ask for what they need in plain language ("a 5th-grade video on the water cycle aligned to NGSS") and get back curated, standards-aligned DE content — videos, images, Studio lessons, Techbook pages, PDFs — rendered as interactive results, not links. Around the chat sits a full product suite: faceted content search, multi-format asset preview, playlists, assignments, student rosters, favorites, and one-click export to Word or PDF. It's built on Claude with DE's own content tools (via MCP), wrapped in enterprise-grade security, AI guardrails, and FERPA-aware student-privacy protections.
Why
Teachers spend hours hunting for and vetting resources across DE's large catalog, and traditional keyword search makes them do the translating between "what I'm teaching" and "what's in the system." The platform collapses that gap: natural language in, ready-to-use, standards-aligned material out. For the business, it's a differentiator that deepens engagement with DE's existing content library, increases the value educators get from their subscription, and positions DE at the front of the AI-in-education shift — with the safety, privacy, and accessibility posture that school and district buyers require.
Strategic Note — the path off legacy
This isn't just a new feature; it's the on-ramp that plots DE's path away from its aging legacy platforms and onto a single, AI-powered, AI-native experience. Rather than bolting AI onto old surfaces, it reimagines the core educator workflow around conversation and intelligent content activation — giving DE a modern flagship to migrate users toward, consolidate fragmented tooling behind, and build future capabilities on. It turns "AI strategy" from a roadmap slide into a shipping product that customers can adopt today.
Success Looks Like
Adoption and stickiness — teachers returning to the platform as their default way to find content, with rising weekly active use and session depth. Efficiency — measurable reduction in time-to-find and time-to-prep for a lesson. Content activation — more of DE's catalog getting discovered and used (assets previewed, playlists built, documents exported, assignments created). Migration — measurable shift of users and workflows off legacy platforms onto the new experience. Trust — a clean guardrail/privacy track record that satisfies district procurement and drives renewals and expansion. Ultimately, it succeeds if it converts DE's content depth into everyday teacher workflow while carrying users into DE's AI-native future.
We are measuring Helix against EDDE in a controlled testing phase using live classroom data. Key metrics include: district renewal rate improvement (target: +5pp over EDDE cohort), Net Promoter Score lift (target: NPS 55+ vs. EDDE baseline of ~38), weekly active usage increase (target: +30% sessions per teacher), and reduction in time-to-task for core workflows like search-to-assign (target: 60% faster). Success means teachers choose Helix over EDDE when given the option, and districts renew at higher rates.
Who's It For
Educators are the primary user — teachers who search, chat, build playlists, create assignments, and export materials as their daily workflow. Students are served indirectly through educator-created workflows: assignments delivered to them, a dedicated student assignment view, and roster/classroom management that connects teacher output to learners. Administrators get their own surface too — an admin panel for product and user management, gated behind an access allowlist — supporting the district and school stakeholders who provision, configure, and oversee the platform.
